OVERVIEW
The objective of this project was to create a visually captivating typographic poster series promoting an event that highlights three poets' significant contributions to poetry. Each poster in the series is unique and strong on its own, while still being cohesive and effectively conveying meaning as a whole.
RESEARCH
In depth research was conducted on each of the poets in order to understand their individual strengths, as well as any connections that unified all three.
CONCEPT SKETCHING
Sketching was an essential part of this process as it helped determined what concepts were working and worthy to pursue, and what was not. By creating multiple variations/concepts, seeing what was and wasn't working was much easier.
TYPE MANIPULATION & FREEPLAY
Letters and words were physically manipulated to study different elements that I could potentially use to strengthen my poster such as distortion, closure, perspective, reflection, etc. Physical studies are much easier to create and scan than trying to create it digitally from scratch.
DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT
A few promising concepts were then translated digitally to compare their effectiveness and determine how well the overall message – the diminishing of equality and social justice – was being communicated.
TYPOGRAPHY
REFINEMENT
FINAL SERIES
The resulting series is unified and cohesive, emphasizing the connections of social tension and the struggle for equality show in the works of all three poets. They are each also able to stand strong individually, giving the audience a deeper look into the personal experiences of each poet.
